Thinking about time, as well as physical vs. mental travel, I created and was the only participant in a stationary dance half marathon. Using a pedometer to gauge the amount of dance steps required to reach 13.1 miles, I danced in my studio for an uninterrupted 8.5 hours to music whose lyrics focused on time, travel, and distance. At the end of the 13.1 miles of dancing in place, I broke through the finish line ribbon and had an award ceremony for myself. While we view marathons as a physical travel from one point in space to another, the runner also sees it as travel from one mental and physical state to another. Geographically, the start and end points are inconsequential.
